We’ve seen early teasers, and character introductions – and now we’ve finally got our first proper look at Toy Story 4, revealing more on the plot and characters we can look forward to in Pixar’s long-awaited fourquel. And rest assured, considering the high that Toy Story 3 went out on, it looks like this extension of the series won’t besmirch the legacy of Buzz and Woody. Watch the trailer here.

As the teaser suggest, this one hinges on a new member joining the gang – Bonnie’s arts-and-crafts project Forky, voiced by Tony Hale (aka Arrested Development’s Buster Bluth). As her favourite plaything, he means the world to her – but his identity crisis sees him fall from the family car on a road trip. Woody goes on a rescue mission that separates him from the rest of the gang, and brings him back to his old flame, Bo Peep, at a funfair. Then the Beach Boys – ‘God Only Knows’ starts playing, and we have no idea what else the trailer included from there because the tears started flowing. From what we could make out, there’s a villainous new doll called Gabby Gabby, the rest of Bonnie’s toys hatch a plot to find Woody, and Woody ponders a life away from his owners. Expect another emotional rollercoaster from the toys you know and love.

Toy Story 4 comes from director Josh Cooley, who previously helmed Inside Out short Riley’s First Date, and will arrive in UK cinemas on 21 June.
