While he’s appeared in a couple of films since he made his directorial debut with Gone Baby Gone, Ben Affleck has really been more focused on preparing his next job behind the camera. And now a trailer for the film, a crime thriller called The Town, is online over at Apple.
While it explores Boston’s seamy underbelly once more, The Town is a different film from Gone Baby Gone. For one, Affleck has taken the lead role of Doug MacRay, a bank robber who takes a shine to the manager he held as a hostage (Rebecca Hall). The two strike up a relationship, with her completely unaware that the seemingly-charming Doug is the same man who made her life hell during the robbery.
Doug starts to plan his next heist, but he’s conflicted with his new attachment, and must also deal with the authorities (including John Hamm's dogged FBI agent) hunting him down.
As with Gone, Affleck has filled the cast with some superb talent, including Hall, Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Pete Postlethwaite and Chris Cooper.
Adapted from Chuck Hogan’s novel Prince of Thieves, the script was written by Affleck, Peter Craig and Up in the Air’s Sheldon Turner. There’s no set date for the movie in the UK yet, but we’d expect it to follow soon after the US release of September 10.
