After wandering around like… well, a tourist lost and thumbing through a battered Berlitz guide trying to find the right phrase to get some help, thriller The Tourist finally has a director back in place in the shape of Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
If the name sounds familiar (and let's face it, it's pretty unforgettable), it's because the German filmmaker, who won acclaim for The Lives Of Others, has previous been attached to the movie, but apparently dropped out due to creative differences.
But now he's back, capping - hopefully - a tortured development cycle that has been Tom Cruise, Charlize Theron, Sam Worthington and directors Alfonso Cuaron and Bharat Nalluri all lined up to work on it at one time or another.
Originally adapted from the 2005 French release Anthony Zimmer, the movie will now see Depp's tourist lured into a web of intrigue by Interpol agent Angelina Jolie as she tries to catch a nefarious criminal.
It'll shoot this spring and Sony wants it in cinemas for next year.
