Topher Grace is one of our favourite people. He’s very funny, has great comic timing and is, as we found out in the last issue of Empire, a great big geek. So it’s always nice to hear that he’s signed up for a new film, and even better to hear about two new films lined up now that he’s finished work on Spider-Man 3.

The most recent is Kids in America, set in the late 1980s among a group of recent college graduates as they attend a wild Labor Day weekend party. Grace is an aimless grad chasing his dream girl at the party, while he, his twin sister and best friend struggle with “their burgeoning adulthood” over the course of the night. So, a bit funny and a bit serious, we’re guessing – sort of Dazed and Confused with more ra-ra skirts and legwarmers.

Filming on that is due to begin in Arizona in February, with Michael “It’s All Gone Pete Tong” directing, having written the script along with That 70s Show alums Jackie and Jeff Filgo.

After that, Grace will star opposite Seann William Scott in Coxblocker, for writer and director Greg Coolidge (Employee of the Month). Grace’s character is William Cox, who’s attempting to woo the girl of his dreams, but being blocked at every turn by her “best friend” and ex-boyfriend Scott, who’s secretly trying to get back together with her. That’s due to shoot in April, presumably finishing just in time for Spidey’s release. Hang on, that title sounds a bit like cockblocker! That’s a bit rude! Tsk tsk – Grace, we thought better of you.
