The tragic death of Tony Scott in August continues to have reverberations for the projects he was developing. Chief among them is Top Gun 2, which was assembling script and locations, with Scott and Tom Cruise working out the details. Now, according to the New York Times, it has fallen apart.
Of course, the news is not altogether shocking given how closely any Gun sequel’s fate was tied to Scott as its producer and director. Still, this being a big blockbuster proposition, there’s always the chance that the pilots will one day climb back into their seats.
For now, however, Paramount – and fans of the original – will content themselves with a 3D conversion of the film, which Scott approved and which may well be hitting US cinemas next year. No solid release dates have been announced just yet.
There has been no word on Scott’s other potential directorial gigs, including** Lucky Strike**, Hell’s Angels, The Killing Sea and more.
