Tony Kaye has had a rough time of it in his film career to date. American History X apparently became an Edward Norton-fuelled nightmare in the editing suite; he had trouble finding a follow-up; he bounced back with little-seen abortion doc Lake of Fire and then his most recent movie, Black Water Transit, got stuck in financial limbo, and is still waiting for a proper release date. But now it looks like he’s properly back with high school drama Detachment, which has nabbed Adrien Brody, James Caan and Lucy Liu, among others, to star.
Detachment will chronicle the happenings at a New York school, where substitute teacher Henry Barthes (Brody) finds a proper connection with his students, which is unusual for a man who tends to arrive, teach for a few days and then depart.
This one has an ensemble you could rightly describe as sprawling, with Liu, Caan, Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks (cue angelic chorus), Bryan Cranston and Marcia Gay Harden all aboard.
The Hollywood Reporter actually broke this one a couple of days ago, focusing on another member of the cast, William Petersen.{
Kaye’s shooting the movie right now, and hopefully it’ll have a smoother ride to our screens.
