As he gets ready to make his directorial debut with his still untitled dark comedy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has reached into his past to pull out one more actor to join the cast. No, he won’t be reuniting with former 30 Rock co-star John Lithgow (though that would be fantastic); he’s set Tony Danza up with a choice role.
Danza and Gordon-Levitt both appeared in 1994’s Angels In The Outfield and now the former will play the latter’s father in JGL’s film. The plot finds Gordon-Levitt as a porn-addicted New Jersey ladies’ man who has a beautiful blonde girlfriend (Scarlett Johansson) and a selfish streak a mile wide. But he’s looking to change all that.
From the sounds of Variety’s report, Danza’s father figure might be partly responsible for his son’s attitude, since he largely prefers to watch sports than pay much attention to his family. Julianne Moore has also hopped aboard to play Gordon-Levitt’s mentor in trying to make him a better person. The cameras will start cranking next month in LA.
Danza’s better known for his telly work – including the likes of Who’s The Boss and Taxi – than his cinematic appearances, though he has a few under his belt, including A Brooklyn State Of Mind and Crash. Watch this space for more on the film as we get it; this one looks worth keeping an eye on.
