Toni Collette has joined the cast of Sam Mendes’ latest movie, an as-yet untitled comedy that starts shooting later this month.
The movie, co-written by novelist Dave Eggers and his wife, Vendela Vida, concerns a couple journeying across America in an attempt to find the best place to raise their unborn child. John Krasinski – so good in The Office: An American Workplace and now, it seems, carving out a genuine movie career with this and Leatherheads – and SNL’s Maya Rudolph have been on board as the couple since January.
But today Collette filled out the cast, as a college professor who is a close friend of the couple. Unfortunately, she’s a little cynical about their exercise, and believes that the kid will be dysfunctional no matter where it’s born and raised.
Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Cheryl Hines has also joined the cast of Mendes’ first out-and-out comedy, which means that this is a very good, very experienced comedic cast. It all bodes well for a movie whose very existence must mean that Mendes’ drama, Revolutionary Road, starring his missus, Kate Winslet and her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, must be in great shape if its director can move onto another movie entirely.
Filming starts soon in Connecticut.
