War drama The Yellow Birds already boasts the presence of Jennifer Aniston, Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich and Jack Huston. Now director Alexandre Moors has added Toni Collette and Jason Patric to the mix.
Adapted by David Lowery and Iraq War veteran author Kevin Powers from the latter’s book, the story focuses on two young soldiers, 21-year-old Private Bartle (Ehrenreich) and 18-year-old Private Murphy (Sheridan), who meet and become friends in boot camp while preparing to head off for combat in Iraq. Bartle promise’s Murphy’s mother (Aniston) that he’ll bring him home safely, but they discover that keeping such oaths is difficult in a place where death lurks all around.
Huston is playing Staff Sergeant Sterling, who oversees the younger soldiers, with Patric as a captain and Collette and Aniston as the lads’ mothers.
Moors is shooting the film now, and while it doesn’t have a set UK release yet, it should be out next year. Collette is currently on screens in Christmas horror Krampus and will next show up in FBI thriller Imperium (due September 16) and CIA action thriller Unlocked, which is awaiting a date. Patric most recently worked on family adventure film Lost & Found.
