The last time news broke about Charlie Kaufman's next film (his first directorial outing since 2015's Anomalisa), it was that Brie Larson had joined the cast. She's no longer part of the film, called I'm Thinking Of Ending Things, but the ranks have swelled to include Toni Collette, Jessie Buckley and David Thewlis.
For this latest, Netflix-backed endeavour, Kaufman has adapted Iain Reid’s 2016 novel, which follows a bloke called Jake (Jesse Plemons) making a trip to visit his parents on their secluded farm. He's bringing his girlfriend (unnamed in the book and presumably in the film), who is, as the title suggests, thinking of ending the relationship – and possibly more. When Jake makes an unexpected detour leaving her stranded, a twisted mix of palpable tension, psychological frailty and sheer terror ensues...
From the sounds of it, Buckley will swap in for Larson as the girlfriend, while Collette and Thewlis are likely as his parents. There's no word on when we might see the film, but the casting announcement means Kaufman has already kicked off shooting or is about to start.
