Luc Besson’s dark, funny, retired-gangsters-in-France film Malavita already boasts the services of Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer as a married mob couple trying to go straight in witness protection. Now they have a no-nonsense handler trying to keep them under control in the shape of Tommy Lee Jones.
Jones would play the grumpy (we’re just guessing here, but it is Tommy Lee Jones) FBI type whose job it is to make sure that Pfeiffer and De Niro stick to the straight and narrow. For while the family does their best, they quickly resort to figuring out problems with tactics better suited to their old life. And things get even worse when their past catches up to them.
With a script adapted by Besson and Sopranos veteran Michael Caleo from Tonino Benacquista’s novel Badfellas, Malavita is set to kick off shooting in August in France.
Jones, who last returned to the role of Agent Kay in Men In Black 3, will appear later this year in Hope Springs and Lincoln. He’s also worked on Emperor with Matthew Fox and is putting the pieces together for his next writing / directing gig, The Homesman.
