Tomb Raider Reboot Changes Hands

Like the seemingly immortal video game character it’ll be based on, the reboot of the Tomb Raider movie series just keeps getting another life. The latest team to attempt a new take on Lara Croft’s adventures? Graham King’s GK Films.

For years, of course, the cinematic face of Croft was Angelina Jolie, who starred in 2001’s **Lara Croft: Tomb Raider **and 2003’s Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life and despite the fact that King and company just worked with her on The Tourist, it would appear they’re committed to firmly hitting the reset button and bringing out another origin story so some younger starlet can don the adventurer’s shorts and practice her cut-glass aristocratic accent. Assuming they don’t switch up the story to make her Texan or something.

Warner Bros. made the last attempt back in 2009, but with GK films pouncing on the rights from holders Square Enix, Croft doesn't yet have a firm studio home. “We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the **Tomb Raider **phenomenon,” said King in a statement picked up by the Heat Vision blog.

Though no writer, director or star is attached yet, GK Films apparently aims to have the movie in cinemas by 2013. Anyone want to pitch in ideas for a new Lara?
