It's the news we had started to wonder would ever actually happen, but according to star Tom Holland's Instagram feed, the Uncharted movie has actually, properly finally started production.
The movie, adapted from the bestselling series of Playstation games, has been in development seemingly forever, as different writers, directors and potential cast members came and went. This version, in addition to Holland as globe-trotting, loot-hunting hero Nathan Drake, features Mark Wahlberg as his mentor, Victor "Sully" Sullivan, Antonio Banderas, Tati Gabrielle and Sophia Ali.
Ruben Fleischer is in the director's chair, working from a script currently credited to Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The cameras are now cranking in Berlin, and with a little luck it might actually finish shooting this time, after shutting down as the pandemic hit.
Sony has scheduled the film for 16 July 2021. Read our piece on the tortured development of the movie.
