It's Nolan news klaxon time again, people — Bwahhhhh! Just a couple of short weeks ago, we brought you the incredibly exciting news that British blockbuster auteur Christopher Nolan has set a new film at Universal for 2026, with none other than Oppenheimer and Interstellar actor Matt Damon heading up the call sheet. And now, having teamed up with MCU talisman Robert Downey Jr. on his last movie, it looks like Nolan's about to take another dip in Marvel's talent pool for his next project. Per THR's reporting, Tom Holland is the latest big name to board Nolan's hotly anticipated — and highly secretive — 13th movie.

So far, details on what Nolan is cooking up for his second Universal picture have been scarce. We know that the Inception filmmaker is working from a self-written script, will produce alongside wife Emma Thomas under the duo's Syncopy banner, and has plans to get cameras rolling on the film early next year. And from THR's latest reporting on the movie, we've learned — and brace yourselves for it — that this one is not set in the present! Could be the past, could be the future, could be some temporal pincer movement operating between the two for all we know at this point — but this day and age is off the table, folks.

For Holland, preparing to make his screen comeback after taking a year off following The Crowded Room's release on Apple TV+ last year, busy times lay ahead. Work is rapidly progressing on the script for Spider-Man 4 already, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are not far off on the horizon now, and now a starring role in the latest film from arguably the biggest filmmaker working today awaits. And as for Nolan, all eyes will be on the newly crowned Oscar winner to see how he follows Oppenheimer's staggering success. We'll see you at the IMAX on 17 July, 2026 (and probably back on the Empire news feed sharing more wild casting news before you know it!).
