HONKING GREAT INFINITY WAR SPOILER ALERT FROM THE OFF: If you are not one of the six people or the German Shepherd named Simon who has yet to see the aforementioned movie from popular franchise factory Marvel, skip the opening couple of paragraphs. For those that are safe to proceed: the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, which had previously been announced, has a title in the great tradition of films having names. And according to star Tom Holland (the other one, no the other one), it is Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Communicating with the world via an Instagram video while backstage at this weekend's Seattle Comic-Con, Holland appeared to "accidentally" reveal the name of the new movie (a play on the fact that he's got a bit of a rep for letting spoilers slip in interviews) while letting us all know he has the script for the film, which returning director Jon Watts will be shooting soon.
Holland also makes fun of the fact that (extra spoiler alert just for good measure) his Peter Parker dies in Avengers: Infinity War, which would surely make the film slightly trickier to pull off, because a pile of dust is hard to make exciting, even when it's poured into a high-tech suit.
Regardless, the sequel is going ahead, with Jake Gyllenhaal likely to be playing the villainous Mysterio, a potential return appearance from Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes and, according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, the web-slinger spreading his spider-wings and heading to pastures new for an adventure abroad. However that turns out, the movie will hit UK cinemas next year, probably around the same time as the planned July US release.
