He might have scored a big gig recently, landing the role of Spider-Man for Sony and (now) Marvel, but Tom Holland has time before he has to put on the suit again for his first solo outing as the web-crawler. He’s just landed a role in **The Lost City Of Z **alongside Robert Pattinson, Charlie Hunnam and Sienna Miller.
And he’ll be reporting for work soon, as director James Gray has already started cranking the cameras in Northern Ireland before heading to Colombia to get the rest of the film completed.
Thee adaptation of David Grann’s popular book has been in development for a while, but finally locked down its main cast earlier this year. Hunnam is playing Percy Fawcett, who headed into Brazil’s Amazon jungles on a mapping quest in 1925. There, suffering from a nasty case of malaria, he claimed to have discovered a mythical city he called the Lost City of Z.
When his adventurer peers roundly mocked the idea as a fantasy or fraud, Fawcett gathered up his son and one other companion and headed back into the jungle to prove his point. And that’s the last anyone saw of all three... As to what Holland will be up to in the film, that’s still under wraps, but the spider-sense the Marvel team probably implanted him in ready for his superheroic work would come in handy when venturing through the treacherous jungle. If only it were real…
The Lost City Of Z is expected later next year. Before that, Holland will be seen in Ron Howard’s In The Heart Of The Sea (due December 26) and then Captain America: Civil War, arriving April 29. We watched some of that at the weekend (no Holland footage, unfortunately) and liked what we saw. If you still need a briefing on Marvel's next film, take a look at this.
