Just last month, we brought you the very exciting news that Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings helmsman Destin Daniel Cretton is circling the directorial hotseat of the MCU's next Spider-Man movie. And now, the webslinger himself, Tom Holland, is sharing more news on the upcoming fourquel — Spidey's first outing since 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. During a recent appearance on the Rich Roll podcast, the Uncharted actor revealed that he and his co-star girlfriend Zendaya read a new draft of Spider-Man 4 just a few weeks ago.
“We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent," shared Holland whilst talking about the progress that's been made on his next Spider-Man outing. "It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” he continued, "Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, 'This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.'”
Expanding on the work that goes into making a film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland also highlighted the logistical challenges of getting Spider-Man 4 off the ground. “One of the things to bear in mind with Marvel is that your film is a small cog in a large machine,” explains Holland on the podcast. “And that machine has got to keep running. And you need to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing. The time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the fantastic people we have working on it now.”
But whilst giving everybody's favourite Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man the sequel he deserves is an unenviable job, Holland did also reaffirm his wish to help pass the webbed baton on someday to a new wall crawler — namely, one Miles Morales. "If I would be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and into the MCU, I’d love to do for a young kid what [Robert] Downey [Jr.] did for me,” said Holland, who started playing Peter Parker when he was just 19 years old.
Now, we don't know yet when Spider-Man 4 will be swinging into cinemas, what it'll entail, or indeed whether there are any concrete plans at this point for Miles Morales to make his live-action MCU debut anytime soon. But one thing's for certain — we can't wait to find out!
