Tom Hiddleston Set For War Horse?

Another likely dispatch from the frontlines of casting on Steven Spielberg’s next film, War Horse: Thor co-star Tom Hiddleston has apparently snagged one of the lead roles. And no, it’s not the horse, though we did see him out shopping for horseshoes last week in LA. Maybe he just likes pub games.

Anyhoo, The Wrap reports a story in Production Weekly’s printed version which makes mention of Hiddleston’s having joined the cast. There has been no official comment from either the actor’s management team nor DreamWorks (not a surprise, given how closely guarded The Spiel likes to keep details of his films before he’s shot a frame), but he's certainly a respected actor in demand at the moment.

Hiddleston's fresh from playing Loki and will be spending his summer in France, shooting Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris.

And just last week, we reported on the rumour that Eddie Redmayne (who just snagged a Tony award this weekend for his performance in the play Red, so well done, sir!) had landed the lead role of Albert, the lad who heads to France to save his beloved horse, Joey from the trenches of World War One. While nothing has been confirmed about that one either, The Playlist’s team is sticking to its sources.

War Horse, of course (of course) is adapted from Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 novel and has been the source of a successful London stage production cantering across the boards since 2007. Spielberg is even now marshalling his forces to shoot his cinematic version this August in Surrey. We’d buy shares in companies that sell horse feed right now, if we were you.
