It’s one thing to sing on film, but to sing convincingly as someone else, while not just pulling off an impersonation, but imbuing genuine spirit and character into it? That’s a whole other trick. It’s one that Tom Hiddleston appears to be managing in Hank Williams biopic I Saw The Light, as demonstrated by a clip the man himself posted to twitter.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the first clip from I SAW THE LIGHT. [@TIFF_NET](https://twitter.com/TIFF_NET) tomorrow! Marc Abraham directed the script he wrote, which in turn adapted Colin Escott’s biography of the man who scored hits with songs such as ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’, ‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry’ and ‘Lovesick Blues’. Williams, who died in 1953, is still considered one of the most significant country music artists and rose quickly, burned brightly and died at the age of 29 from heart failure brought on by pills and alcohol.
The likes of Elizabeth Olsen, David Krumholtz, Bradley Whitford, Maddie Hasson, Cherry Jones, Josh Pais and Wrenn Schmidt are also in the movie, which shot last year in Louisiana. It’ll premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow before a US release date of November 27. There’s no UK date set yet, but if it has a positive reception at the festival, expect it to make it over here next year, especially given the level of Hiddlespreciation to be found on our shores.
