Included as part of Warner Bros.’ big release date announcement for its DC Comics titles, the adaptation of Suicide Squad is already gathering steam, which is handy since it’s currently set as the first film to launch after 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. And apparently the studio is pursuing Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie to star.
It is fairly early days for any discussions, though Deadline goes on to mention that they’re all fairly well disposed to signing on, which might seem surprising, but Smith is no stranger to big action fare and Hardy will do blockbuster work if he’s interested in a part. As for Robbie, she’s clearly a Warners favourite after The Wolf Of Wall Street and Focus, in which she appears with Smith. Gosling, meanwhile, is said to be taking meetings on Houdini and Doctor Strange as well as **Suicide Squad ** according to The Hollywood Reporter{
David Ayer is directing the film, which finds villains such as Deadshot, King Shark, Captain Boomerang and Harley Quinn given a chance for redemption by undertaking dangerous missions for the government. There are no indications yet on whom these four might be playing, though Robbie could conceivably make a fun Harley Quinn. Suicide Squad is currently pencilled in for a mid-2016 release. Expect much more news on this one as it develops.
