He may have had to drop out of Suicide Squad, but Tom Hardy has found a different comic book-based project to spark his interest. He’s now attached to produce and potentially star in New Line’s adaptation of the Vertigo title **100 Bullets{
Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso's noirish crime saga ran for an appropriate (and award-winning) hundred issues between 1999 and 2009. 100 Bullets involves the mysterious Agent Graves, who begins to arrive in people's lives with a briefcase containing a gun and 100 untraceable rounds of ammo, offering law-immune retribution for personal injustices. The series alternates between the individual stories of the people who are given the briefcases, and the bigger picture of Graves, his covert group The Minutemen, and their wider agenda.
After at least one previous attempt to turn it into a film, the comic book had been set up at US cable network Showtime, which is where it seemed to have a more natural home to tell its sprawling story. Still, New Line is putting its faith in **Vatican Tapes **writer Chris Borrelli, who has worked on a script. The details, according to The Hollywood Reporter, remain under wraps, but it looks like it’ll be as true to the comic as a film screenplay, with all its timing limitations, can be.
Hardy will next be seen pulling double duty as Ronnie and Reggie Kray in Legend, due September 11. He’s also worked on Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant, which is scheduled to hit our cinemas on January 15 next year, and has a variety of projects in development, including miniseries Taboo and two films about animal poaching in Africa.
