Tom Hardy is fast becoming a champion of causes via the projects he develops. He’s already working on two separate films about animal poaching and trafficking, but is now turning his attention to the human race with post-traumatic stress disorder drama Samarkand.
Hardy’s set to play an SAS solider returning from operations in the Middle East. But despite his advanced training, he’s still ill-equipped to deal with switching from the life-threatening stress of the battlefield to the more mundane – but still challenging – life back at home.
Greg and Olly Williams wrote the script, which Greg will direct. He has form with Hardy: the actor starred in his award-winning short Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother, which took Best Director gongs at the Chicago, New York and San Francisco shorts festivals. You can watch it below.
It’s not the only project the man formerly known as Bane is working on, He’s attached to Steve Knight’s Locke, true-life drama Everest, Russian thriller Child 44 and will kick off work shortly on Animal Rescue alongside Noomi Rapace. Come 2014, he’ll be seen on our screens as Max Rockatansky in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, so there’s no shortage of Hardy in our future.
