Pushing into producing and developing his own material, Tom Hardy has been working with his Locke and Peaky Blinders writer/director Steven Knight to bring us a dark new historical drama called Taboo. The first trailer for the series has now washed up.
Set in 1813, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), a rogue adventurer who returns from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds to seek vengeance after the death of his father. Refusing to sell the family business to the monolithic and powerful East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a dangerous game with two warring nations, Britain and America. Enemies lurk in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal – a dark family mystery unfolds in an explosively colourful tale of love and treachery...
Based on an idea from Hardy's father Chips, Taboo has The Killing's Kristoffer Nyholm directing and Ridley Scott as an executive producer. It'll show up on both UK and US screens next year.
