Who needs press releases? Not Tom Hanks, that’s for sure – and certainly not when he has the powers of the Magical Interwebs and Twitter at his disposal. As he gears up to start directing/starring in the comedy Larry Crowne for Universal, he’s gone and revealed most of his main cast.
Thanks to a Twitpic from his account of the casting board in the film's production office, Hanks has announced that the likes of Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Cedric the Entertainer, Rami Malek, George Takei, Dale Dye, Peter Scolari, Bryan Cranston, Wilmer Valderrama (who he’d previously talked about on Twitter), Taraji P Henson, Jon Seda, Maria Canals Barrera and Holmes Osborne. They’ll feature alongside Hanks and co-star Julia Roberts.
Mbatha-Raw is better know for her turn as Martha Jones’ sister on Doctor Who, whiles the rest are a blend of well-known and up-and-coming actors and character types. There are more to come, though: as the pic's title makes clear, the casting board is by no means complete.
Crowne, co-written by Hanks and Nia Vardalos, finds him playing a man in need of re-invention and searching for his perfect new career. Sounds like Hanks already has a glowing career in stealth PR waiting for him.
