Tom Hanks’ New Sci-Fi Film Now Called Finch, And Is Headed To Apple TV+

Can a robot follow a greyhound? If they're all part of Tom Hanks' cinematic oeuvre, they can. All right, so what we really mean is that his new film – now known as Finch – will be following Greyhound to Apple TV+.

The sci-fi drama, directed by Miguel Sapochnik from a script by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, is a post-apocalyptic story of the last man on Earth, an ailing inventor name Finch (Hanks). As he nears death, he builds an android to protect his beloved dog. The cast also includes Caleb Landry Jones, Samira Wiley and Skeet Ulrich.

Once known as Bios, the film was produced by Amblin and had been scheduled for release via Universal this August, though ongoing worries about the pandemic (even as cinemas reopen) and thinking that it might work better for streaming audiences led to it moving to Apple's service, where Hanks' World War II drama Greyhound arrived. The one thing now in flux? A release date, and whether it'll ever see the inside of a cinema. If there's any awards potential at all, Apple will no doubt try to schedule something...
