Tom Hanks is no stranger to playing an astronaut. And he has some experience acting opposite a toy space adventurer. He'll combine those skills for a new film that Paramount and Mattel are putting together, Major Matt Mason.
The film – the title might change — will see Hanks as the eponymous astronaut, who was inspired by America's space race actions in the 1960s. He lives and works on the moon alongside a crew of humans and aliens, and fights against threats. Akiva Goldsman – yes, him again – is on board to write the script and produce the eventual movie. And he'll work from a short story featuring the character that was written by novelist Michael Chabon (who has been getting into space adventures of his own for the small screen).
It's early days for this one, with no director or other actors attached yet. Hank has Mr. Rogers film A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood due out here on 6 December and will also be seen in World War II drama Greyhound.
