One of the movies that saw its release impacted by the Coronavirus, the Tom Hanks-starring (and written) World War II drama Greyhound was announced as moving to Apple TV+ last month. Now we know when it'll actually arrive on our screens: July.

Sony produced the movie, and had scheduled it for a 16 July release, but once the pandemic, it moved to limbo. Following that came discussions and decisions, including with Hanks, about moving it elsewhere. A bidding war ensued and Apple came up victorious, happy to splash some of its considerable cash resources to snag the title for its Apple TV+ streaming service.

Greyhound is based on a true story, and also CS Forester's novel The Good Shepherd, which Hanks adapted. It's set in the early days of the conflict. An international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) in his first command of a US destroyer, crosses the treacherous North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats. He takes out one easily enough, but that's just the start of the battle – one where he and his convoy will not enjoy the protection of air support...

With Aaron Schneider in the director's chair and Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan and Elisabeth Shue also in the cast, Greyhound will now dock on 10 July. It marks the second Hanks project that Apple has nabbed, following fellow World War II project Masters Of The Air, about bomber crews, which comes from the Band Of Brothers/The Pacific team of Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman.
