While Stephen Daldry has been attached to the adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s 2005 book Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close: A Novel for a few months now, but it appears he’s closing in on a cast at last, with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock negotiating to star.
Paramount and Warner Bros. are tag-teaming on the film, which Eric Roth has been busy writing the script for, and follows the adventures of an intelligent nine-year-old boy, who describes himself as a vegan scientist artist pacifist. Who also plays the tambourine. Our story starts with him searching for the lock that matches a key left behind by his father who died the year before in the September 11th attack.
Hanks and Bullock are up to play his parents and the producers, including Scott Rudin, are launching a search to find a youngster to take on the lead role. Given the credentials of everyone involved, this is surely being positioned as possible awards fodder.
If all the acting deals fall into place, the plan is to start shooting in January.
