Though Cloud Atlas didn’t perform quite as well as hoped at the box office, co-director Tom Tykwer and Tom Hanks clearly got along while making it. They’ve decided to reunite for a new novel adaptation, planning a film based on Dave Eggers’ **A Hologram For The King.

Tykwer, who also worked with the Wachowskis on the Cloud Atlas script, has already begun work adapting the book, which finds a struggling businessman who realises he’s pretty much failed in America and heads for a last chance in a growing Saudi Arabian city. He hopes that if he’s able to pull off something memorable, he’ll re-start his career and also help pay for his daughter’s college tuition.

Though there are worrisome comparisons with Hanks’ own Larry Crowne, the combination of Eggers, Tykwer and the Oscar-winning actor is certainly ripe with possibilities. While they don’t have a studio or the financing in place yet, the main duo alone should be enough to make companies crack open their wallets.

Hanks will next be seen in Somalian pirate drama Captain Phillips, which docks here on October 11. He’ll then star in Saving Mr. Banks, which is out on January 17 next year.
