Tom Hanks Confirmed For Triple Frontier

Back in October, you might recall hearing that Tom Hanks was seriously considering following up the work on his latest directorial/starring effort Larry Crowne with a role in Kathryn Bigelow’s new film, called – depending on who you ask – either **Triple Frontier **or Sleeping Dogs. Now, according to producer Charles Roven, the Oscar-winning actor has officially clambered aboard the film.

Talking with Coming Soon, Roven let it slip that Hanks is aboard. "Tom Hanks is starring in the film, and we're still looking to cast the other roles. We're hoping to start shooting the movie sometime in mid-March."

Notably, he referred to the movie as “Triple Frontier”, so it looks like that’s the winning name for now. As for the movie itself, it’s an ensemble piece penned by Bigelow’s Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal that is set in the violent border zone situated between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil (hence “triple frontier”), a hot spot for organized crime and notoriously tough to police. A bit like the Empire office when Chris has been at the biscuits and is in the grip of a frenzied sugar rush.

Johnny Depp has also been flirting with the idea of taking a role, but unless his schedule works out (it looks like he’ll be busy next year), Bigelow will likely have to look elsewhere. But after making The Hurt Locker and snagging Hanks, we bet she’ll have her pick of the acting litter. And yes, that joke would work better if the movie was called Sleeping Dogs, but we’re going with it anyway.
