People like to watch Tom Hanks in command of things, apparently. Captain Phillips did well and now true-life plane drama Sully is proving to be a success at the American box office. Combine that with World War II, and the producers are no doubt hoping for a winner. Hanks has written and may star in wartime naval drama Greyhound.

According to Deadline, Hanks is also hoping to star in the film, though given that he's also producing it through his Playtone company, we'd imagine he'll probably get his shot.

Get Low director Aaron Schneider is attached to make this one, which follows a career officer handed command of a Navy destroyer (the vessel of the title), but who will have to fight his own self doubt and personal demons to prove that he belongs in the captain's chair. The movie is still coming together, so it could be a while before it sails, but given the talent involved, we doubt it'll have too much trouble rustling up interest, especially given Hanks' fresh success with audiences.

Sully will be a while getting to UK shores – the film isn't out here until December 2. Before that, Hanks will be back as Professor Robert Langdon in the third Dan Brown adaptation Inferno, out on October 14.
