Back in 2011, Michael Mann was circling true-life racing drama **Go Like Hell. Despite showing real interest in the project, the film ended up dwelling on his “Maybe” pile. Now, though, Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski have picked it up, dusted it off and want to give it a go{
The Oblivion director and his leading man are now attached to the story of the fierce rivalry between Ford and Ferrari around the legendary Le Mans race in 1966, which was the first time that the American company scored a win. Bubbling beneath the surface is the tale of how Henry Ford II worked with men such as Lee Iacocca and racing champ-turned-engineer Carroll Shelby to re-invent the Ford company and make their name in European racing, competing with Enzo Ferarri’s seemingly unbeatable vehicles.
AJ Baimes wrote the book that will fuel for the movie, but while 20th Century Fox is looking to put the accelerator pedal to the floor on development for a possible 2014 shoot, the script will first need to head to the garage to be retooled to Cruise and Kosinski’s liking. The prospect of Mr. **Days Of Thunder **getting back into the racing milieu certainly has some appeal, though, and we all know that Cruise is a speed freak in real life, with the motorcycles and planes and such.
Cruise next has Doug Liman’s Edge Of Tomorrow set for release here on May 30, and he’s also in development with old friend Christopher McQuarrie on Mission: Impossible 5. Kosinski is still loosely attached to a potential new Tron film, but seems focused on other scripts, including a new Twilight Zone pic and an untitled action thriller he announced earlier this month.
