Tom Cruise is never a man to do things by halves. Even 2/3 is not enough for him when he's trying to drop jaws or get bums in seats. With Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning on the way (finally) next year, one of the key set pieces is an ambitious motorcycle/BASE jump. And rather than just keep the how-they-did-that material for a DVD extra – or a thirteen=hour podcast interview with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie – he's put a Making Of video online.
It's a fascinating look at how one of these stunts comes together - the repetition of elements, the scientific analysis of practice jumps, the huge team of experts and, around it all, the increased aging process for McQuarrie as he watches his star grin his way through it all.
And in related cruise news, he took time out of filming to thank fans for showing up in droves at cinemas to see Top Gun: Maverick. But not for Cruise the usual standing in front of a poster reading from a prompter – he jumped out of a plane to express his thanks. Because of course he did… See that video below.
Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One, meanwhile, lands in cinemas on 14 July next year.
