The last time Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson traded barbs on the big screen, it was in the courtroom for A Few Good Men. But according to the LA Times, the pair could be reuniting for a new film – this time a comedy, as Cruise is attached and Nicholson has an offer to join El Presidente.
On Monday, The Wrap broke the first details of the script, crafted by former Conan O’Brien team/Daily Show team writer Dan Goor. The plot follows a Dudley Do-Right-esque, overly-dedicated Secret Service agent who is dispatched to guard America’s worst former leader, a bumbling sleazeball of a man who nevertheless still gets called Mr President. It’s the dullest job in the world, but suddenly becomes risky when the ex-Prez’s life is threatened.
That report dropped heavy hints about “a major A-list movie star” circling the role of the agent with “a former co-star” as top of Warner Bros. list to nab the role of the President.
Now comes word – from sources; not Warners, mind – that it’s Tom Cruise who has attached himself to the agent’s role and Nicholson who the executives want to play the man he has to keep alive.
Our take? Could be a great combination provided they find the right director for the job…
