The last time husband and wife filmmaking duo Dave Franco and Alison Brie worked together, Franco directed Brie in Somebody I Used To Know, a good old fashioned feel-good rom-com co-written by the spousal stars. The duo's latest collaboration however, aptly titled Together, is set to see the acting couple share the screen in a film that couldn't be farther from their last project if it tried. Neither 'feel-good' nor 'rom-com', Together is a body horror from first-time writer-director Michael Shanks about the (possibly literally) all-consuming codependent relationship shared by Millie (Brie) and Tim (Franco). Having played gangbusters at the Sundance Film Festival, the film quickly scooped up distribution from Longlegs and Cuckoo label Neon — and the bizarre first trailer for Shanks' midnight primed chiller certainly suggests it'll fit right in with its genre peers. Check it out below;

Once again, Neon remind us why they've cornered the market on effectively chilling, show-don't-tell teaser trailers (see also; Cuckoo's teaser, Longlegs', and The Monkey's. The eerily serene, sunlight dappled shots of Franco and Brie hugging and holding hands, the uncomfortable close-ups of forest dwelling dogs, the sight of Franco's Tim pulling an extremely long hair from between his teeth and of Millie's eyelashes seemingly reaching for her partner's, the convulsions and rolling eyes and contorting bodies, and that gorgeous piano arrangement of Lakmé's 'Flower Duet' tell us next to nothing of what's in store — but boy oh boy do they make us want to see. It certainly looks to us like our loved up leads are about to find themselves 'together' on a whole new level when the shit hits the fan here, but Shanks and the trailer editors over at Neon have done a sublime job of setting the tone without painting the full picture, and it looks like Franco and Brie are all-in, too.

If you do want a little more context for what might be about to go down though, the film's official synopsis offers some clues: "Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie (Franco and Brie) find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country. Abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other. With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh."

American film fans can look forward to seeing Together when it hits cinemas stateside on 1 August, while over on this side of the pond we can look forward to seeing Together, well, together just as soon as a distributor picks the movie up for UK distribution. C'mon British film labels, we're sure it won't be that scary... probably.
