Competing news about a potential sequel to Joker emerged in late 2019, with reports that co-writer/director Todd Phillips was in talks to handle a new film, which were then denied by official channels. Prepare your grains of sand, then, for another quick mention, which emerged via a Hollywood Reporter story on Phillips' lawyer, and word that the filmmaker is at least in the midst of a deal to co-write a new instalment.

Whether this means continuing the story of Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck (the most likely) or some other strand remains to be seen for now, and of course this isn't exactly official confirmation from Warner Bros./DC.

Still, despite the divided reactions to the film, 11 Oscar nominations (with wins for Phoenix and Hildur Guðnadóttir's score) and a billion dollars plus at the box office meant that the idea was at least going to be considered. Now we wait to see if there is any real forward movement.
