Though we've heard talk of the Joker sequel moving forward for a while now, co-writer/director Todd Phillips has posted concrete proof that the movie is on the road to being made to social media – with a cover for the script and an image of star Joaquin Phoenix reading it.
According to Deadline, Phoenix hasn't definitely signed on to return as Arthur Fleck yet, but is in the progress of making a deal to once more play the troubled anarchist and wannabe comedian.
What happens in the new movie – penned again by Phillips and Scott Silver – is a mystery, but that title: Joker: Folie à Deux refers to a mental disorder affecting two or more people. And, as we saw in the original film, Fleck's influence certainly starts to spread.
Joker, of course, scored 11 Oscar nominations and won two – for Phoenix and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir’s score. So Warner Bros. is naturally eager to have this one getting going.
And Phillips has been hinted at as a potential person to help oversee the company's DC Movies side the way Kevin Feige runs Marvel Studios for Disney, though given that he doesn't have the encyclopedic knowledge that Feige does for his own comics source material, he may end up teamed with another creative if he does take the gig. For now, though, he'll be focused on shepherding the Joker sequel. Let the debates begin anew!
