Starsky director tackles comedy remake

Todd Philips, last seen running from the set of the Borat film, will direct an American version of 1985 German laugh-fest Men.

In the original, a vain and self-centred man finds himself the roommate of the man who is sleeping with his wife on the sly. Allan Loeb is penning the fresh script.

Doris Dorrie directed the German version, but the rights to remake it have been held for 15 years by Paula Weinstein. According to Variety, she hadn’t found the right people to make it until she met the writer and director. "Allan and I see it is as pretty rough, funny and edgy subject matter," Phillips told the trade mag. "But the theme is actually heartbreaking."

Since bolting from Borat, Phillips has found the time to finish the comedy School For Scoundrels, and also has another funny film, The Disassociate set up with Warners.
