Todd Haynes most recently brought us Wonderstruck, but while he's had several other projects in development, it appears he's found his next film. Variety reports that the director is now attached to make legal drama Dry Run.
The film, which has a most recent script draft by Mario Correa, adapts Nathaniel Rich's New York Times Magazine article The Lawyer Who Became DuPont’s Worst Nightmare. It'll track the work of Robert Bilott who had been practicing as a corporate defense attorney for eight years when he took on an environmental lawsuit against the chemical company DuPont. The suit turned into a battle exposing a decades-long history of chemical pollution.
It's a rare occasion of Haynes agreeing to something he didn't generate himself, but clearly he's found something in it that resonates with him. Mark Ruffalo is also involved as a producer, and there's a chance he might play the lawyer, though he's yet to start making any sort of deal.
