Though you’d be forgiven for thinking that **Up In The Air **/ Young Adult director Jason Reitman had already started on his next project, Labor Day, you would be wrong. He’ll be whirring the cameras this month and Tobey Maguire will be stepping in front of them.
Labor Day will be based on Reitman’s own adaptation of Joyce Maynard’s novel, which focuses on the story of Adele (Kate Winslet) and son Henry (Gattlin Griffith). On a day out, the pair picks up a stranger, Frank (Josh Brolin) who turns out to be an escaped convict. While hiding out with the stressed single mother and her child, he teaches the boy some life lessons across a five-day Labor Day weekend (celebrated around the first Monday in September, for those of a non-American persuasion).
Maguire will be narrating the film and shooting scenes as the adult Henry once he reports to the set in Massachusetts. The cast also features Brighid Fleming, Tom Lipinski, James Van Der Beek and Empire favourite Clark Gregg.
Maguire has been working more as a producer than an actor since his days in Spider-Man’s suit, but he’s got a few films coming up, including The Details, T****he Great Gatsby and Life Of Pi.
