Little has been seen of the charismatic actor, Timothy Olyphant, since he starred as the eponymous bald assassin in the godawful Hitman.

But, after a period where, presumably, he went away and thought about what he had done, he’s surfaced again, and has signed on to star in the remake of George A. Romero’s The Crazies.

Directed by Breck Eisner, the remake follows the fortunes of the inhabitants of a small town in Kansas, most of whom are rendered psychotic when a foreign agent is introduced into the water.

Olyphant will play the town’s sheriff, a man trying to figure out just what the hell is going on.

We’re somewhat reassured by this. The last time Olyphant played a sheriff, he was Seth Bullock in the wonderful TV show, Deadwood, and if his character here is even half as interesting, that’ll mean he’s very interesting indeed. Plus, he’s a likeable and magnetic actor in need of a hit, man – hopefully The Crazies can deliver.
