Following the completion of their $8.5 billion merger with Amazon, MGM have sealed their first big post-acquisition deal, picking up the global distribution rights to romantic horror Bones And All, the latest feature from Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino. Based on Camille DeAngelis’ 2015 novel, the film will see Guadagnino reunite with his Call Me By Your Name leading man Timothée Chalamet, who we recently saw in Best Picture hopeful Dune, which is up for 10 golden statues at this weekend’s Academy Awards.
Scribed by Guadagnino’s long-time collaborator David Kajganich (Suspiria, A Bigger Splash), Bones And All stars Taylor Russell (Lost In Space) and Chalamet as Maren and Lee, two differently outcast young adults who embark on a thousand-mile journey together to find the father Maren never met – and to look for answers as to why she can’t control her desire to eat the flesh of those who love her. Wait, what?
Yes, Guadagnino’s film – which has already shot and wrapped in Ohio, and for which Deadline showed us a first look – will be following the likes of Julia Ducournau’s Raw in looking to use a cannibalistic concept to explore altogether more relatable, human themes; in this case, that will be isolation, attachment issues, and self-loathing.
Along with Chalamet and Russell, the film is also set to star another of Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name collaborators, Michael Stuhlbarg. He will feature alongside an impressive ensemble, including Mark Rylance, André Holland, Jessica Harper, David Gordon-Green, Francesca Scorsese (yes, Marty’s daughter!), and Chloë Sevigny.
No release date has been set for this one just yet, but it sure is shaping up to be a tasty offering. We’re off for a nice chianti and some fava beans to celebrate!
