As new players such as Apple and Amazon seek to make their mark on the TV landscape, the trend for taking classic movies and turning them in series. Now you can add Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits to the list.
Apple has signed a deal to develop the Gilliam fantasy into a show. So far all we know is that it's in the works and that the director will be attached as an executive producer (though he won't be running the show, at least he'll have some input).
Bandits' storyline offers plenty of possibilities for stories, as the movie sees 11-year-old Kevin joining a group of thieving adventurers who have stolen a map that charts holes in the space-time fabric. They set about visiting various historical periods to steal riches, with an Evil Genius (David Warner) looking to get his hands on the map.
The movie has long become a cult favourite, bursting with Gilliam's typical weird imagination, and featuring some of his old Monty Python pals in key roles. The show has a lot to live up to...
