Timberlake Joins The Social Network

Justin Timberlake, Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield are all currently thanking David Fincher for the add, having been cast in Facebook drama The Social Network.

Timberlake will play Sean Parker, who co-founded the music industry-baiting file sharing network Napster and the address book service Plaxo, before becoming an informal advisor to Facebook, and then a 'founding president' in 2004 when the company became incorporated.

Garfield will play Eduardo Saverin, one of Facebook's co-founders and a subsequent thorn in Mark Zuckerberg's side. And Eisenberg, fresh from the one-two punch of Adventureland and Zombieland is Zuckerberg, Facebook's main man: the Harvard computer programmer who was the youngest ever entry on the Forbes 400 list, with an estimated fortune of over $1bn at the age of 24. Time ranked him the 52nd most influential scientist in the world in 2008.

Fincher's film is based on the book Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich ("a tale of sex, money, genius and betrayal") and focuses on Facebook's early days on the Harvard campus, and the subsequent overnight success and ridiculous wealth that came between its geeky creators. Aaron Sorkin wrote the (very long by all accounts) script, and will co-produce with Scott Rudin, among others. Production begins next month in Boston.

There are plenty more potential players in the Facebook story, so there should be some more additions to what's shaping up as a very solid cast before too long.
