As it moves on into Season 2, the Stephen King-channelling small screen series Castle Rock is expanding the characters it'll draw from the writer's work, and, along with that, there are some new castmembers headed for the town. Tim Robbins, Lizzy Caplan, Garrett Hedlund, Elsie Fisher, Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi and Matthew Alan are all among the newcomers.
The core story for the new season is a feud between warring clans boiling over as Annie Wilkes, best known as the unhinged nurse in Misery, arrives in town.
With Caplan playing Wilkes and Eighth Grade breakout Fisher as her daughter Joy, Robbins will be Reginald “Pop” Merrill, the Patriarch of King’s iconic crime family, he's dying of cancer and at a reckoning with his family. That includes Hedlund as John “Ace” Merrill, Castle Rock’s legendary bully. Ace is taking over his uncle Pop’s businesses and threatening a fragile peace with nearby Jerusalem’s Lot. Alan plays Chris Merrill, Pop’s nephew and Ace’s brother, who struggles to keep peace between the Merrills and the Somali community.
On the other side of things, Warsama is Dr. Nadia Omar. The Harvard-trained Somali medical director of a rural hospital in Jerusalem’s Lot, Dr. Omar’s rational and scientific mind will be put to the test, while Abdi has the role of Abdi Omar. The tough, older brother of Nadia, Abdi leads the charge to build a Somali community center that will deepen the roots of his people in Maine. The show will act as an anthology, with a different story per season, though we're promised some interaction with previous iterations as the series explores King's multiverse.
There's no date yet for the show's return, but we'd expect it later in the year via Hulu in the States and Starzplay (via Prime Video Channels) here.
