Building on his high-profile career in visual effects, Tim Miller has just signed up for his first gig as principal director. He'll be manning the cameras and calling the shots on **Artemis, an as-yet mysterious project being set up at Fox.
Artemis is currently described as "a contained action thriller set in outer space". Not to be confused with Eoin Colfer's set of Artemis Fowl kids' novels then, but that "contained" suggests that maybe it's something along the lines of a Lockout or a Sunshine, set aboard a space station or ship. In Greek mythology, Artemis was the goddess of wild animals and the hunt and also the moon. Could that be significant? There are currently two NASA satellites called Artemis in operation, but they're in orbit near the Moon, so if the film's about them, then its space isn't very "outer" after all.
Miller currently heads up his own FX facility, Blur, and designed the eye-catching title sequence for David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. As director, his name has previously come up in connection with Marvel's **Deadpool and Warren Ellis' **Gravel, but Artemis looks to be the film that gets off the ground first.
The film will be produced by John Davis (Chronicle, Predators). The screenplay is by Andrew Lobel, who only seems to have a brief history in short films, but also has Tunnels in development, with Mikael Hafstrom set to direct.
There are no start dates or further details for Artemis yet, but we'll keep you posted as always.
