Though the sequel idea has been floating around as a rumour for years, the idea that Beetlejuice 2 might actually coalesce from the limbo spirit world got a boost when it emerged that Dark Shadows' Seth Grahame-Smith was working on a new draft of the script. Burton was attached as a producer, but now, according to The Wrap, he’s seriously considering directing it{
The shift in Burton’s involvement had itself been mere rumour until today, with the still-nebulous word that he’s considering the idea but still has to read the latest version of Grahame-Smith’s screenplay.
It comes on the back of whispers that he may no longer be considering Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children as his follow-up to the recently wrapped Big Eyes, and could be on the hunt for something else. Still, until there’s an actual announcement, it’s all still just Hollychatter.
If it does comes together, Michael Keaton will no doubt be happy to work once more with his old friend, as he’s been positive about revisiting the ghost with the most for years now. Channelling his younger days might give Burton a boost as well, after the relative underperformance of Dark Shadows and the charming Frankenweenie.
