If you’re a screen actor right now, there are two murder-mystery ensembles you probably want to be a part of. On the one hand, you have Rian Johnson assembling a stellar cast for his next Knives Out movie, Wake Up Dead Man. And then there’s the adaptation of Richard Osman’s hit novel The Thursday Murder Club, coming from writer-director Chris Columbus with the might of Amblin behind it – and boasting, as its central quartet, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie. Now, that cast has expanded with multiple new additions, since the film is expected to begin shooting before the end of June.

Added to the cast now are the likes of Doctor Who legend David Tennant, The Rise Of Skywalker’s Naomi Ackie, and Rogue One’s Daniel Mays, plus Jonathan Pryce and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. The five additions have been confirmed by Netflix, though it hasn’t been announced which roles they’re playing. We already know that the four members of the titular club will see Mirren play Elizabeth, Brosnan play Ron, Kingsley play Ibrahim, and Imrie play Joyce – a group of pensioners who set about solving a crime in their retirement village of Cooper’s Chase.

Overall, it makes for quite the line-up in an adaptation of a book that’s been a huge success in the UK and beyond – now, with the added might of an all-star cast, Spielberg producing through Amblin, and a global distribution deal through Netflix. Cup of tea, anyone?
