It’s hard to imagine the meeting where The Borrowers director Peter Hewitt’s latest film was pitched to Pathe Pictures. It’s a film about a boy who overcomes obstacles in his path and realises his dream, sound good so far? Well, you can imagine thoughts of a second Billy Elliot springing to the fore but this boy’s special talent is a little more unique than ballet dancing. The hero of Hewitt’s latest feature achieves his goal by utilising a unique ability for focused flatulence. For better or worse, Thunderpants has been green-lighted and will feature a champion wind-breaker whose post-digestive trouser tunes lead him to fame and then death row before allowing him to finally land his dream job as an astronaut… Well quite. Originally titled The Boy Who Dealt It, this decidedly unusual prospect is scheduled to begin filming in April. Though whether Thunderpants will draw the same viewers who shed a tear as Jamie Bell pranced his way to fame remains to be seen.
