Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been trying to years to get the Three Stooges – Larry, Curly and Moe – back on the screen. They’ve been though casting changes and endless different scripts and studios, but finally succeeded this year. We’ve had a teaser poster already, and now the trailer is online over at Apple.
Broken up into three comedy segments, the film finds the trio, played by Chris Diamontopoulos, Sean Hayes and Will Sasso, left on the steps of an orphanage, growing up in the care of the nuns. As adults (and we use that in its loosest sense) they try to save their childhood home, become entangled in a weird murder plot and end up stumbling into a reality TV show
How you’ll react to this first footage likely depends on your tolerance for a torrent of slapstick gags. That is, after all, the Stooges’ style, which gained a big following in their 1930s heyday and has seen them celebrated since (though not, perhaps, as much as the Marx Brothers). We’re not quite convinced yet it’ll work as anything more than a serious of slaps, eye-gouges, groin shots and other physical comedy (plus a liberal dose of the Farrellys’ trademark boob fetish), but take a look and tell us what you think.
The Three Stooges will assault our screens on May 4.
